Explore Novalis - Air-swimming and Bridges to Nowhere!
Novalis has 3 different ways to get off map and I'll post videos of all 3 that I've used below. First, here are some pictures of the adventures - including Air Swimming. (You'll need the O2 mask for that bit.)
After much experimenting and trying just about every rock in the playable area, here is the primary way I get OOB/Off Map on Novalis:
The other two options I found via other gamers on YouTube. As of May 2017, these have not been patched and still work. You'll have the best luck with the Game Speed set to Fast and using the Helipack, but you can use the Thrusterpack as well. For the "swimming" portion, you'll need the O2 mask.
Note: You can use the targeting feature on you weapons (I use the Fusion Grenade launcher and the Groovitron most), or actually firing your weapon, for figuring out if the solid surfaces are actually solid enough to stand on (if it has "collision detection" in game development terms.) Sometimes it let's you know there is simply another layer beneath it - a common feature of Veldin's landscapes.
Here's the second option:
Hop on the palm tree by getting as closed to the tree as possible and jumping nearly straight up onto it. Then high jump over onto the archway. Then it's just one more jump up to the roof.
And finally the 3rd option:
I found this one by accident. I was trying to use the palm tree again, and then leap onto one of the circular outcroppings on the wall. Turns out I didn't need that. The ledges near the ground are just high enough that leaping from them straight to the roof works.
Why have so many options? Because you never know when Insomniac is going to patch one of them. Plus it's fun. :)
